There is much irony in the symbolism of Lady Liberty and in Emma Lazarus' most famous work that tells us that there is a home and freedom for all. Emma's irony was her devout bief in Zionism and displacement of Palestine. America's irony is two-fold in that we exist on stolen land and have somehow decided that no one else gets to be on it.

🐈‍⬛📚🎉New Title Tuesday!

So much stuff this week it's hard to pick the one I'm most excited about but here's the highlights from each slide:

The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett- it's been a minute since we've had a new book from Kathryn but boy howdy does she deliver! An epic testament to underestimated women who know that calamity can be the spark of new beginnings.

Daisy Chain Flower Shop by Laurie Gilmore- Dream Harbor is back! The latest edition of the cozy romance has all of my favorite tropes: golden retriever man (Elliot) falling for the black cat FMC (Daisy) and she's only a black cat b/c the schmuck mayor declared Daisy's flower shop bad luck. But you and I both know black cats aren't really bad luck and just need a little patience and fake dating 😂

My YA pick is the hardest of the bunch- I love a Romance and I love D&D so Rolls & Rivalry by Kristy Boyce is high up my rec list buuuuuut Young World by Soman Chainani is SUCH a cool book about a Teen President and if you think this book is a wacky romp you would be so so wrong. Intense and leans more towards Lord of the Flies.

And asfor the kids books I truly don't have a fav. It's all good people!

Nervous about wine pairings with your Christmas Day Dinner? 🍷🍾😰
Don’t worry, BookStacks has got you covered!

I’ve lined up suggested selections for ham, turkey, prime rib, and if you’re on-the-go: a gas station hot dog

HAM🐖 Choose wines with fruitiness & acidity with some crisp bubbles: Riesling or Chenin Blanc and if you prefer reds skip anything with heavy tannins and go for Pinot Noir or Côtes du Rhône

Turkey 🦃 will pair beautifully with an Oaky Chardonnay or full bodied Rioja

Prime Rib 🥩 this is gonna be an All Red event- pick a Syrah, Malbec, or Merlot. Peppery crusts are a match for Syrah, Merlot has softer tannins for a leaner roast, and well-balanced Malbec has a dark fruit taste with a smooth finish.

And last but certainly not least: The Christmas Gas Station Hot Dog- a tradition for the Corwin’s to grab while en route to a gathering when we don’t trust food will be ready when we get there! What you’re looking for is a high-acid, refreshing wine to cut through the fat content. Choose a dry Rose, Prosecco, or a fruit Gamay!
(expert mode: if you’re going for a gas station chili dog you have our prayers and a suggestion of Riesling to balance out the umami)
